Perfect Curves Final Chapter Sneak Peek

Hey everyone here is a tiny peek at the last chapter of Perfect Curves.

wattpad chick lit romance novelMy eyes followed Reed as he made his way to the front. He hadn’t mentioned being a speaker, but maybe it wasn’t a big deal since he was an employee. There was a slight sheen on his forehead. He must have been nervous. I didn’t take him for the type to be afraid to talk in front of people considering he instructed fitness classes.

The microphone screeched when Reed adjusted it to his height. I saw him wince a little. His eyes landed on me and he smiled before starting his speech.
“Hello everyone, my name’s Reed. I’m a personal trainer here. It’s great to see you all out here to celebrate our ten year anniversary, but also such a great cause. At our gym, we focus on more than weight loss and physiques.  We focus on helping people live healthier lifestyles.”
Reed took a slip of the bottle of water that was given to him at the beginning of the speech.
“This year I actually had the opportunity to help someone very special. When I met this client I knew that she was different. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate all my clients and put my best foot forward when it comes to helping them. It’s that this particular client captivated me from the first time I saw her. She was the most beautiful woman I’d ever set eyes on. So much so that for the first time ever I risked my professional integrity and gave her my number.”
Reed’s eyes bore into mine. I couldn’t blink, couldn’t think, I wasn’t even sure how I was breathing.

Sneak Peak of What Skylar Needs on Wattpad

What does Skylar have up his sleeve to deal with Candace?

I thought I’d do a little sneak peak of the next chapter for What Skylar Needs. This is just a snippet to get you excited for the next update over on Wattpad. What Skylar Needs is an interracial enemies to lovers romantic comedy that features a plus-size heroine. If you haven’t read the rest of the story you can click here to read the full thing.

Skylar watched as Melanie’s Uber drove away. He cursed out loud at the whole situation. He’d finally found a girl that he wanted to be better for and Candace had found a way to mess it up. He’d hoped that she had seriously backed off since he hadn’t heard from her, but clearly, she had been scheming.

He turned and made his way into the building. He knew that if he didn’t step in Candace would never stop. She seemed to think that if she couldn’t have him then no one would, especially not Melanie. She appeared to have a personal vendetta against her. Skylar scrolled through his contacts until he got to Brendon’s number.

“What up bro?”

“Nothing, well everything. I need your computer skills. I’ll explain later.”

“Okay, should I be concerned?”

“Nope, once you help me all will be well.”

“Alright then, I’ll be over tonight.”

Back in his apartment Skylar started to brainstorm his plan. He didn’t want to play dirty, but Candace left him no choice. She forgot who she was messing with and how much he knew about her. She had a way of telling all of her deep dark secrets after a romp in the sheets. Her own words were about to come back to bite her in the butt.

Tied By Carina Cole | Book Review

A broken Princess Rescued by her Unconventional Prince.

Carina Cole, Tied, Romance, #amreading

Sleep, who needs sleep? Is it the best idea to stay up most of the night reading an author’s latest release? Maybe not, but in this case, it was worth every second.

Tied is the second book in Carina Cole’s Devils Wolves Series. It pulls at your heart strings as much, if not more than Torn, the first book in the series.

Tyler, who survived severe burns to his face and body and a damaged vocal cord, lives in seclusion in the woods. He’s long since lost his friends and has limited contact with his family. One day as he was walking through the woods around his home he discovered her.

Holly was abducted when she was eight. Ten years passed before Tyler stumbled upon her and her dog Poppy. From the moment she saw him from the dark hole there was a connection. Her prince had come to save her just like she always knew he would.

Holly goes to live in an inpatient facility to learn how to live as an adult and attend therapy for the terrible things she endured over the last ten years. Her strained relationship with her parents leaves Holly feeling more alone than she did with “the bad man”. All the while she wonders when her prince will come back for her. She knows that he with him she can have a happily ever after.

Holly found both Tyler and her lost dog in the same woods that he found her. Due to his vocal cord injury, Tyler rarely speaks. That doesn’t stop Holly from talking to him. He can’t resist the beautiful blond that looks at him like he’s just like everyone else. Not with pity or disgust like so many people had. From there a beautiful friendship develops.

Seeing Tyler and Holly grow and heal each other is a true treat. Carina Cole writes in a way that has your heart feeling what the characters are feeling. They are both so scarred inside and out, but their scars and their past are what connects them. Both feel like misfits in the real world, but when together it feels like home.

If you enjoy, friends to lovers and a bit of a slow burn then this book is a must. If you have a tender heart you may want to grab the tissues. This was truly one of the most beautiful and unique love stories I’ve ever read. It deserves more than 5/5, but since that’s as high as we go, here 5/5 it is.

Unstable By S.E. Hall | Book Review

Unstable is full of Love, Loss, and Self-Discovery.

Unstable, S.E. Hall, Romance novel, romance, love, loss, second chance love, Henley, Keaton,

I read A LOT of books. I set my Goodreads challenge at 70 books. It’s April and I’m at 34 books. That doesn’t include the books I’ve re-read. S.E. Hall’s Unstable was one that left me with a book hangover.

I kept thinking about Henley, Keaton and Gatlin. If you’re a reader you know the feeling that I’m talking about, book hangover.

Henley returned to her hometown fort the first time in eight years after the death of her mother. She hadn’t spoken to or seen her mother in those years. Coming back to the farm brought back a lot of pain and unwelcome memories for Henley.

When she arrived Gatlin, a hired hand, greeted her. He became more than just her friend, but her crutch. He helped her through the many emotions of being back at the farm.

Keaton Cash was the boy next door that she always saw as her enemy. She thought he was a nuisance and was not happy to see him when she got home. Keaton Cash didn’t care how hard Henley tried to push him away. He pushed back refusing to let her continue to shut him out.

It’s so hard to review this story without giving too much away. There are some twist and turns that I did not expect. There’s only one chapter from Keaton’s point of view and it blew my mind. Hall was clever in the execution.

There’s so much to this book. I won’t ruin it by going into great detail. I think that it is worth the read. It isn’t a cookie cutter second chance or enemy to lover romance. It deals with issues of love, loss, mental health, and guilt. The title Unstable goes deeper than you would even guess.

My Wattpad Stories: Perfect Curves & Loving Gunner

wattpad chick lit romance novel If you enjoy reading you may have heard of a website called Wattpad. It gives writers, both amateurs and experienced, an opportunity to share their stories. It also gives readers a place to read thousands of stories for free.

Recently I decided I wanted to start taking my writing more seriously again, and Wattpad seemed like a good first step. I began publishing a few stories to try to get feedback on my writing.

My most recent story, Perfect Curves (currently #90 in chick lit), is about a plus-size woman named Penelope that is trying to get fit. There happens to be a hunky trainer named Reed that would like to help her with her needs in and out of the gym.

My first story is called Loving Gunner. Gunner and Olivia were childhood best friends. Oliva has always loved Gunner, but she never loving gunner, wattpad, romance, romance novel, chick lit, book worm thought he felt the same. When Olivia went away to college they drifted apart. Now she is back and
Gunner is determined to win her over. The only problem is she is currently taken.

Both books are interracial romances. I’m enjoying getting into the habit of writing on a regular basis. It’s hard to put yourself out there for others, but I suppose it is a necessary step. So far I have gotten a lot of positive feedback on Perfect Curves.  I hope to keep the momentum up.

Feel free to stop by and see what you think of my stories so far! If you enjoy you can vote, comment, and follow!

Fire & Brimstone By R.L. Mathewson | Book Review

FIre & Brimstone R.L. Mathewson, book review, romance novel, rom com, If you are a bookworm then you probably have those authors that you buy every one of their books as soon as they come out. R.L. Mathewson is one of those authors for me.

Fire & Brimstone is the latest book in her Neighbor from Hell series. This series is based around the Bradford family. A family of men that have bottomless pits for stomachs, and knack for driving women crazy…literally.

The latest installment is Lucifer’s story. Lucifer owns the restaurant Fire & Brimstone, which he has banned his family from due to their insatiable appetites. Lucifer has earned his namesake. He is a gruff man that can have the tendency to send his staff off crying or worse quitting altogether.

Then there is Rebecca his Achilles heel. Where others run and hide she defies him at every turn. He tries to fire her on a regular basis, but she ignores him and continues to push his buttons. Rebecca has a sickness that has been plaguing her since she was a child but after many years of doctors telling her it is all in her head she’s given up hope of finding out what is wrong with her. Lucifer’s brother is a doctor and he insists that Rebecca lets his brother try one last time to figure out what is wrong with her.

Their story is full of hilarious scenes that will make you laugh out loud. Mathewson always has a unique story that doesn’t fall into the typical romance storyline. Seeing the progression of Lucifer with Rebecca is sweet. Nothing like seeing a brute of a man with a soft spot for his lady.

If you like a good romance with a lot of humor this book is for you. Really all of the Neighbor from Hell books are worth a read. I give this book a 5/5 because in my eyes R.L. Mathewson does no wrong when it comes to romance and comedy.

Until Harry by L.A. Casey Book Review | BookWorm Wednesday

Author L.A. Casey, Until Harry, Romance novel, slow burn romance This book came at a perfect tme. I wanted to start implementing “BookWorm Wednesday”, and this book is the perfect first book. I downloaded Until Harry on a whim because there was an audible version I could listen to at work. It just so happens that I bought this book on the day that it released.

I’ve never read anything by L.A. Casey so I had no preconceived expectations. Let’s just say if I had, they would have been blown out of the water. This is the story of Lane and Kale. They are from York and have been best friends since birth.

Harry, the book’s namesake, is Lane’s uncle. He is one of Lane’s biggest confidantes. Due to Lane’s unrequited love for Kale and the loss of a very close friend, she decides to move to New York City. During her time in New York she cuts off all of her family except for her uncle Harry. She goes six years without speaking to them until Harry’s death. In light of his death she travels home for the first time since she left.

There is so much in between and after, but I don’t want to spoil it for you. L.A. Casey does a phenomenal job of going from past to present to explain the depth of Lane and Kale’s relationship. Her details and the story she weaves is that of a seasoned storyteller.

I’m a sucker for a good friends to lover story, and this is one of the absolute best I have read. There were times I felt my throat choaking up  while I tried to fight tears from forming. This story will take you on an emotional roller coaster in many ways. It is 100% wortht the ride.

This book was a 5/5. No question.

Fifty Shades of Grey: the male perspective

So my fiance thought it would be an interesting idea to write about the Fifty Shades of Grey movie from his point of view. I thought it would be fun to get some male perspective on the site so here we have it, my fiance’s thoughts on Fifty Shades of Grey.

I’m a simple man who likes simple things…Actually I’m a pretty complicated guy who has no idea how my girl has been with me for this long. I’ve put her through many looks of “what are you talking about”, babe please be quiet I’m watching the fight, and about five Quentin Tarantino movies. So for Valentine’s Day when she said she wanted to see 50 Shades of Grey, I didn’t decline. “You know this is going to be bad don’t you?” I said. She agreed knowing after the previews that the movie wasn’t going to do the books justice. But she just had to see it. I thought maybe it could be so bad that I could laugh about it.

For those who have been living under a rock for the past couple of years, 50 shades of grey is a book about a young woman who, after interviewing a millionaire for her college roommate, ends up dating him. This is not the usual relationship though as they are involved in a Dom/Sub BDSM relationship. The book …series of books took the world by storm, I guess because of the subject matter and made many vanilla singles and couples take an interest into BDSM. Don’t know what any of these terms are? Google it, that’s what Mr. Grey told the girl to do.

With in the first 20 min. of the movie I realized about 10 things wrong with the movie. One, the main girl was plain looking. Two if I had to pick somebody in the movie it would be the receptionists. Three, she’s a horrible journalist. Four, yeah I know she’s not really a journalist but she’s doing an interview for her friend who’s sick…I can’t remember if it were for the school paper or class or whatever but her friend should not get credit for the story. Five, they are horrible at emotion. Six, he already has her hooked. Seven, did I miss something? What does he do, and are his 2/3 receptionist and himself the only ones that work there? Eight, he’s allegedly a very busy man….we’ll get to that later. Nine, Anna just let her flu ridden roommate get close to her and then take her sandwich. Ten her flu ridden roommate seems like she just magically got better in a matter of hours.

These of course were not the only things wrong with this movie. The sex scenes played like soft-core porn, but I’ve seen worse on skinnamax. The chemistry between the two main characters played more like a stalker/victim relationship in some scenes. Like seriously this dude would pop up out of nowhere like the Terminator or a killer in a slasher movie. Maybe this movie could have been better if it was a thriller because the guy would have been more believable.

I had many more issues with this movie. Not trying to body shame anyone, but while some might complain about the nudity in the movie, I’m complaining about seeing the poor girl’s ribs every time she breathed. Her roommate took her sandwich, her man took a bite of her toast, she didn’t eat whatever that soup/salsa crap was that her parents were eating..I almost thought I was watching the Hunger Games for a second.

Long story short, I could continue to rip the movie, but my girl said it was actually pretty true to the book. Which makes me wonder if the rich sadist opens up a young virgin college grad into a sexual awakening maybe is not the best thing to put on the big screen? Or is the book just that badly written.

Review: Fifty Shades of Grey

I did it. I couldn’t resist. I went to see Fifty Shades of Grey yesterday… and I drug my my fiance’ along with me. He was a trooper.

I read the books a few years ago, and I must admit, at the time I enjoyed the books. I know a lot of people have complained that the writing isn’t great. I’m not saying it was wonderful. I am an absolute book worm, and my genre of choice is romance. I have read many romance books ranging from bestsellers to first time writers. Fifty Shades doesn’t fall into my top favorite books, but where I was in that time in my life I liked it.

Well the movie is a different story. I want to start by saying I don’t’ think this is a book that really should have been made into a movie. One of the things I absolutely love about reading is that I can image characters, scenes, rooms, settings, or whatever, however I want. I create everything in my mind. I don’t know that this is a book that could truly be put into movie form and still portray everything the book did. I will say the set, from Christians penthouse, to the view, to the red room were all actually very realistic and well done.

Then there was the acting. I don’t know much about the actors themselves, but at some points it was painful for me to watch. It seemed very forced and mechanical in a way. My fiance made the comment that he kept waiting to see what the big climax, no pun intended, or conflict of the story was. It
did finally come in the final few minutes of the movie, but I think it left me more disturbed than anything.

I hate to say I overall was not impressed with the movie. After seeing the previews I had a feeling that it would be that way, but I still had to see it. They did a great job on the set, I think the acting fell short. However the acting may have fell short because, like I said, I don’t know that this was the best book for a movie adaptation.

Book Review: Me Before You

Amazing does not even describe this book. I read Me Before You by Jojo Moyers a few months ago, and I still think about it.

This story follows the life of Lou and Will. Lou’s boss shuts down the cafe she worked at and she loses her job. After trying a few positions and going to several different interviews, she answers an ad for a care assistant.

After thinking she completely bombed the interview, Lou gets the job. She is surprised to find the man she is caring for is not only young, but handsome. Will was hit by a car that left him quadriplegic. Since his accident he has a negative outlook on life. He has lost his will to live.

Will and Lou don’t get along in the beginning. Lou is able to chip away at Will’s walls. They are able to build a beautiful friendship and each began to love each other in their own ways.

Lou finds out that her job is more than just to be a care giver to Will. Will her love be enough?  That is the question and the answer will unfold as you read it. This story is one of love and, I think, a coming of age story. Make sure you have some tissues because the story is going to take you for an emotional roller coaster ride.

This is one of the best books I have ever read. The story and characters still cross my mind months later. I look forward to reading more of her books. I would give this story a solid 10/10.
